Senator Rand Paul on Monday night called on the media to unmask the whistleblower whose complaint sparked the impeachment probe against President Trump.
The Kentucky senator made the remarks in his home state at President’s Trump Lexington rally.
“I say tonight to the media, ‘Do your job and print his name,’ ” Paul said at Rupp Arena while pointing to the media in attendance.
Paul’s speech gained Trump’s approval, who called it “excellent” after the senator was finished.
The lawmaker — who Trump called a “really good friend” before inviting up on stage — also said “the whistleblower needs to come before Congress as a material witness.”
President Trump earlier Monday said the same thing while rejecting the possibility of the whisteblower responding in writing to Republican lawmakers questions.
“The Whistleblower gave false information & dealt with corrupt politician Schiff. He must be brought forward to testify. Written answers not acceptable!” the president wrote on Twitter.
US whistleblower laws are in place to protect the identities of people who expose allegations of wrongdoing by government officials.
