Tabnak – As the Syrian army continues its operation to retake the southern territories from the rebel and terrorist groups, it is reported that a strategic town close to the Jordanian border has been liberated by the army units. Meanwhile, Russia is preparing Damascus with more advanced weapons to be used in the other operations.

According to the local media, ¬the Syrian army has seized a chunk of territory from terrorists in the southwest, the first major government advance in an offensive near the Jordanian border. The army has taken control of the town of Busra al-Harir and the nearby Laja area, SANA news agency reported.

The capture of the area cut across a militant-held finger of territory in northeastern Daraa province, where President Bashar al-Assad has pressed his assault.

Local sources reported that terrorists' supply line between Northeastern Dara'a and Southeastern Dara'a have been cut off after the army advances. The sources said that the army intends to advance in Azra'a region to reach other government forces in the region to lay siege on the terrorists.

Meanwhile on Monday, over 900 terrorists laid down arms and surrendered to the Syrian Army troops following rapid advances by the government forces in Eastern Dara'a. The army men stormed terrorists' positions in Eastern Dara'a and captured the village of Hawsh Hamada.

Syria’s southwest region is strategically sensitive because of its proximity to the frontiers with both Jordan and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

The territory’s return to the Syrian government control would cut the much-reported collaboration between Israel and militants and deal a blow to Tel Aviv’s plans to consolidate its grip on the Golan Heights, which has been used by the regime to treat wounded militants for years.

Meanwhile, it’s reported that modern Russian man-portable anti-tank guided missiles Kornet-D has been deployed in Northern Latakia to be used in the Syrian Army's upcoming anti-terrorism operation in Idlib province.

The Arabic-language website of Sputnik quoted military sources as reporting that the Syrian Army, deployed in Northern and Northeastern Lattakia, has received modern Russia-made Kornet weapons.

The army will use the new system to trace and track military vehicles and militants' gathering, Sputnik said, adding that the new system is capable of penetrating 1,300 mm into armored vehicles.

The sources further told the agency that the newly-received Russia-made weapon is compatible with anti-tanks missile units of the army, adding that the army, deployed in Eastern Lattakia, has been capable of intercepting a vehicle of Turkistani groups on a road from Bdama to Idlib.
